Here at Berty & Gerty Vintage we just love an Hawaiian shirt, especially now we have re-located to the Cornish Riviera, our studio overlooks Porthmeor Beach in St Ives, known locally as the Surfer's Beach. Many locals and tourists, alike, can be seen wearing this fantastic colourful shirt. Berty just loves a good Parrot Tropical print shirt, worn with a Christy's Straw hat, what could be more perfect for classic beach look!

The Alhoa shirt to give this shirt it's correct name grew in popularity in the 1950's. When the Waikiki beachboys and surfers just loved the bright vibrancy of these wacky shirts they started wearing them everywhere. It wasn't until Hollywood Film stars and celebrities started wearing Alhoa shirts, that every American had to have an Hawaiian shirts; as part of their own staple summer wardrobe.

Blue Hawaii  the 1961 American musical film set in the state of Hawaii and starring Elvis Presley, saw a  massive increase in the sale of Hawaiian shirts in America and Europe.
